Mui Ne is a gorgeous seaside town located in southern Vietnam. It is a favorite weekend escape destination for many Saigonese who prefer to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy nature. Here, you can relax on beautiful beaches and enjoy delicious seafood and low prices. Due to this, many tourists have also become a huge fan of this place. Mui Ne also hoses some of the most breathtaking landscapes of Vietnam. Here are some things you need to know for your trip to this gorgeous seaside town.
Due to its unique micro-climate, Mui Ne is one of the driest places in Southeast Asia. The city is relatively dry even in the wet season. The city’s weather is best between August and April. If you like to do Kitesurfing, the best time would be from September to February as the wind is strongest during this time, and you will get great waves, which is ideal for kitesurfing and also many other watersports. The time between April and August is stifling hot, so if you can’t handle the heat, avoid this time.
Mui Ne is easily accessible, whether you come from the north of the south. One of the most comfortable ways to come to Mui Ne is to travel by bus. You can get a bus from Ho Chi Minh City, Dalat, and Nha Trang straight to Mui Ne. All trips to Mui Ne last about five to six hours. You can also book a sleeper bus if you are traveling at night.
You can drive a motorbike from Ho Chi Minh City to Mui Ne, although it is a long drive. You can easily travel around Mui Ne on a bicycle. Most of the restaurants, bars, shops, and beaches lie along Nguyễn Đình Chiểu, the city’s main strip. So, you can reach almost every major place with a bicycle. You can rent a bicycle from your hostels/hotels as many hotels and hostels rent bikes to the guests for free.
If you are heading to the dunes, a motorbike would be a great choice. You can cover distances quickly and also gives you extra flexibility. Many hostels and hotels also rent motorbikes, but if they don’t have it, ask them about the place to rent. You can rent a motorbike for about 100000VND per day.
If you have brought a private car to Mui Ne or thinking about renting one to explore the distant places like the sand dunes, then it’s great as you can cover the distance quickly and enjoy the travel. Or, you can also get a taxi for a whole day and travel.
The sand dunes are the most popular attractions of Mui Ne. These are the only reason many visitors travel to this seaside town. The dunes of Mui Ne are only one of their kind in the whole of Vietnam. There are two different sand dunes; red sand dunes and the white sand dunes. Both of these areas are like small deserts and seem completely different from the whole of Vietnam. You can travel around these dunes, or climb to the top of the dunes.
The red dunes are closer than white dunes, and you can reach with only a few minutes’ drive from the city. If you reach the dunes early in the morning, you will get gorgeous view of sunrise and in the afternoon, beautiful sunset view. The best time to visit would be in the morning as there won’t be a crowd.
The white dunes are farther and larger than red dunes, so there will be enough space for people to roam around and capture pictures without feeling crowded.
Fairy Stream lies just about ten minutes from the main resort area. Here, you will get to see some gorgeous limestone formations which make it seem like a miniature version of the Grand Canyon. At the end, there is a small waterfall. During the rainy season, there might not be much to see here, but the walk itself is worth it.
To the west of Mui NE lies the Po Sha Inu Cham Towers. These are the oldest remaining Cham towers in Vietnam and were built around the 8th century. As they are off the main road, it can be tough to find them; however searching for them itself feels like an adventure.
Mui Ne has ten kilometers of beautiful sandy beach. This might make you think you will have plenty of space to enjoy. But this is not the case in this town. Most of the beaches are owned by hotels and they only allow their guests to use it. Coco Beach Resort and Bamboo Village offer day passes for around 200,000 VND which includes the use of their beach, sun loungers, towels and bathrooms/changing rooms. They also offer drinks in a reasonable price.
If you don’t like to pay for the beach, the public beach is also pretty good. It gets very crowded at the weekend and doesn’t have facilities like bathrooms, but it is still great. If you like to enjoy the whole beach to yourself, head a bit northeast of Mui Ne, past the white dunes. Here, you will find pristine white sandy beaches. For some basic facilitates, you can head to Langson Mui Ne Campground. They provide sunchairs and changing rooms to their guests and allow outsiders as long as you get a drink or two from them.
